What We Believe
The Word of God…
Genesis 1:27
God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Psalm 119:105
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
We teach core Christian beliefs and values. Below are some of the highlights of the beliefs we hold as the common core of the Christian faith.
We Believe…
- In the Holy Trinity: One God in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- In God as Creator, Father of all humankind. All children are important. We believe each child to be created by and loved by God.
- In Jesus Christ as the Son of God, raised from the grave, reigning in power. We believe in the One Body of Christ, with its many forms over the centuries and around the globe.
- In the Holy Spirit as God’s presence in the human heart, helping us to become God’s children.
We hold in common with all Christians the belief in salvation in and through Jesus Christ.
We share the Christian belief that Scripture is authoritative in matters of faith and conduct. Through the Bible we come to know God and to experience a call to live a holy life in relationship with a holy God.
We share the common Christian understanding of sanctification: that God, presently at work in and through us by the Holy Spirit, renews our fallen nature, enabling and empowering us to do good, and to walk according to God’s commands.
In essentials UNITY; in non-essentials, FREEDOM; in all things LOVE.
Core Christian Teaching…
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

What is a “United Methodist”?
Methodists have a long, rich history of evangelical joy and compassionate social impact. We believe in a full-bodied faith that involves head knowledge (of the Bible’s teachings) and heart knowledge (of a personal relationship with God) lived out with our hands feet (taking action in the name of Christ in order to help others).
United Methodists ( www.umc.org) hold to the historic Christian faith. We value our human intellect and modern science, while at the same time looking to the Bible as the authoritative guide for faith and practice.
