What do we pray?

What do I pray?

There are many ways to pray. You can write them, say them, sing them and on occasion you can just think them. You can get on your knees, take a walk, go for a drive, be alone, or be in a group. At some point in your spiritual development you will move from a pleading prayer, such as “Oh God why me?” to a more full and mature prayer. Action is the key… you must do something even if all you can do is think about opening your mind to the will of God. Things begin to happen in the Kingdom of God when you take action. This is illustrated beautifully in the book of ACTS in the New Testament of the Bible. ACTS is a wonderful title referring to the actions taken by the Apostles of Christ. A simple way to help you expand your concepts of prayer is to pray the acronym A.C.T.S.

A.C.T.S. stands for:

Adoration for God and all that he has given us.

Confession, confess to him your weakness and failings and express the desire of your heart to be made new.

Thanksgiving, giving thanks for the many blessings in your life.  Even when you are low in spirit there are things to be thankful for such as: the sun shine, fresh air, your heart beating and so on.

Supplication; pray for the needs of you, your family and others.
